Mardi Gras
Mar. 1st, 2006 10:36 amAs some of you may know, yesterday was Mardi Gras and Louisiana celebrated it. I almost forgot since I'm now in North Carolina. I just found this quote on my home town paper's website and got the giggles.
At Baton Rouge’s Spanish Town Mardi Gras, floats lampooned Gov. Kathleen Blanco as “Kathleen, Queen of D’Nile.” Mayor Ray Nagin’s goofy “chocolate city” comment earned him a place as Willy Wonka presiding effetely over disaster. With Michael Brown, the hapless former FEMA director, those were the Three Stooges of Louisiana’s apocalypse.
Blue tarps are a common theme, as is the certainty that Louisiana’s problems are fading from national consciousness. “Federal Employees Missing Again,” said a float in one of the New Orleans parades.
