solidfoamsoulMunch hated being out of New York City. In New York you knew what to expect and dealing with other precincts and cops was pretty easy and routine. Outside of the city, everyone had their own way of doing things; their own procedures and protocols. And the fact that some people were so anal about following them to the letter was what irritated him most.
“I think it’s funny how a slimy piece of crap will get more consideration than the victim did,” he griped out loud.
“They haven’t seen what we’ve seen and they don’t know the evidence in this case,” Fin replied, trying to be fair. They’d both already had their heads ripped off by the administrator in charge of this New Jersey hospital. Their suspect had high-tailed it out of the city and had made it this far before a shoot-out ensued, ending with the suspect seriously wounded.
A few minutes later, a man limped by. “Dr. Gregory House?” Munch asked in an authoritative tone. He’d already been told that House was the one treating the suspect and had overheard that the doctor was… well, a handful was putting it mildly.
Instead of an immediate response, the doctor turned, studied them a moment and took the lollipop out of his mouth. “Very good detectives.”
Great, a smart-ass. Munch thought. “We need to speak with Mr. Turner.”
“I’m sorry detectives,” House added extra emphasis on the title. “I’m afraid he’s rather unconscious at the moment. You know, that might have something to do with blood loss and being shot, but then I’m just a doctor.”
“When can we speak with him?” Munch fought the urge to throttle the man.
“Probably when he wakes up would be best. Unconscious people are a bit hard to talk to,” he said the last part while walking into the next room, obviously trying to avoid dealing with the detectives.
Munch and Fin looked at each other for a long moment. “I’ll go try the hospital administrator again,” Fin finally said. “You stay here and watch for Dr. Know-it-all.”
