What Might Have Been

Summary: Sometimes he wondered… [Sylar’s thoughts]

Sometimes he thought about the way it might have been… the way events could have been… if they’d given him what he deserved. If they’d loved him, accepted him for who he was… If only his mother had seen that he was a good boy, that he’d struggled to fulfill her dreams, with the power or rather, the ability, to be whatever he wanted.

Maybe if he’d fit in as a child. What if they’d been friends with him instead of teasing him and driving him further inside himself.

What if Lora, his high school crush, had dated him, liked him, rather than laugh in his face for daring to even ask her out.

Maybe if someone had just given him a chance, he’d have had a chance for a better life… a more meaningful life…

But then, that was all a dream wasn’t it?

You can’t go back in time…

Well…

You can, but it wouldn’t change anything anyway. They deserved what was coming to them all because they’d made him who he was. He’d never be a real hero now, just pretend from time to time.
