“I don’t see why we can’t just go ahead and take a vacation. The captain offered.”
“Captain’s got a lot going on right now and he needs us here for the time being.”
“Zoe, the captain is perfectly capable of taking care of himself. I think the whole loyal second mate thing is great and all, but we deserve a vacation.”
“I know sweetheart, and we’ll get one. Just as soon as things settle down a bit.”
“Things won’t ever settle down, sweetheart.”
“This is our job Wash… our life. And after all that Mal has done for us…”
“Oh no the great guilt trip.”
Zoe raised an eyebrow, a classic sign that she was losing her patience and fast becoming irritated. “Tell you what… you just bear with me and trust me and I’ll make sure the vacation is something unforgettable.” She leaned down to kiss his cheek, then his lips, kissing him until he was nearly breathless.
“I’d be a foolish man to argue with that,” he managed after the kiss.
“Yes, you would,” she countered with a look.
