"And I thought we might actually have a second chance," Sydney finished, still sobbing and clutching the beer bottle in her hand so tightly that Weiss was amazed it was still in one piece. Sydney couldn't believe that she'd done this. She hadn't meant to be here, sitting in Weiss' apartment, crying and pouring her heart out... again. She hadn't meant to put him in the middle of her and Vaughn but he seemed to be the only one who would listen nowadays. She didn't know where else to go.

Weiss took a long drink from his beer and looked at her thoughtfully. "Syd, even if you get back together, it could never be the way it was..."

"Why not?" she asked stubbornly. "We still have the chemistry. We still love each other." She shook her head. "What am I saying? I don't want to ask him to leave Lauren... I tried to let him be happy."

"But you want him to leave. And you're not happy and frankly, he isn't either," Weiss summarized. "And it couldn't be the same cause ya'll have issues," Eric added. "Namely Lauren."

"Every time I think I'm to the point where I can move on... where I can get over him and get past this... something happens to throw us back together. I still love him Weiss," she said.

"Eric," he corrected. "We ain't at work right now." She nodded. "You've got to move on Sydney, not just for yourself but for him too. If you move on, he will. That's the only way things are going to get better." He stood and moved to the couch, collapsing onto it beside her. "I'm sorry Syd... I know it sucks."

"It sucks and I'm drunk," she pouted softly. "And I'm tired." She sighed and leaned her head on his shoulder. "I don't want to move."

"Things will work out," Eric said.

"How do you know?"

Eric paused a moment, his brain barely processing answers... "Because they always do," he finally answered as if that were the key to it all.

Sydney nodded sleepily, mumbling. "Eric?"

"Yeah?"

"Hold me?"

Eric was either too tired, too drunk, or too good a friend to argue... maybe all three. He put his arms around her as she fell asleep and lay still as his own eyes drooped shut.
