I still remember the world
From the eyes of a child
Slowly those feelings
Were clouded by what I know now
Where has my heart gone
An uneven trade for the real world
I want to go back to
Believing in everything and knowing nothing at all
I still remember the sun
Always warm on my back
Somehow it seems colder now
Where has my heart gone
Trapped in the eyes of a stranger
I want to go back to
Believing in everything

"Help me!" Nadia screamed as she ran down the street screaming. Not watching, she ran into someone else, full force. She screamed again, jerking away violently.
"Hold on! Easy! I'm here to help! CIA..." The man she'd crashed into held out a badge. She took a deep breath, pausing long enough to study the badge. ‘Eric Weiss'. "What happened?"
"My father... he killed them... all of them..." she managed to utter, nearly about to collapse.
A shot suddenly ricocheted by and Agent Weiss pushed her back and pulled out his gun, returning fire. "Let's get out of here." Weiss pulled her toward his car, pushing her in the passenger's side and then rushing over to the driver's side, returning a few more shots. Once inside, he revved the car and quickly drove away. "Are you okay?"
Nadia nodded as Weiss pulled out his cell phone, to report the incident to the CIA. He quickly described the situation in as much detail as he knew, directing questions at Nadia every once in a while. He glanced in the rearview mirror. "We're also being tailed."
Nadia looked back fearfully. "They're catching up."
"They won't," Weiss replied, turning sharply and throwing her into the door. "You'd better buckle up." His cell phone rang suddenly and he answered it. "Weiss.... Oh hey Sydney. Yeah, she's safe. You want me to bring her in?" He paused for a long time. "Okay, you take care of things on that end. I'll keep her safe. I'll call you in a week to check on the situation. Okay. Bye." He hung up the phone, turned it off and swerved again sharply, taking them down a small street. "Sydney wants me to get you out of L.A. till they catch Sloane. They have a lead on him. We'll check back in a week. Until then, we lay low."
Nadia just nodded. "Where are we going?"
"Anywhere but here," Weiss replied.
The car was mostly silent for the next few hours as Weiss drove the car far out of town. When he was convinced they were safe, he stopped and bought a couple bus tickets.
"You can't seriously be thinking we should take the bus?"
Eric glanced at her, slightly annoyed at her tone. "Of course not, but the tickets will give us more time." He drove them to another town and they eventually ended up taking a cab to a small hotel in the middle of nowhere. He rented a room under an alias and paid for it with what was nearly the last of his cash. "At least I'll get reimbursed for this..." he muttered before returning to the car.
They went up to the room, which Weiss scanned quickly, before saying a word.
"Are we safe?" Nadia finally asked, seeing that he was nearly done.
"For the moment," he replied. "You better get some sleep. We're on our own for at least a week and there's no telling what might happen." Eric settled himself in the armchair in the room as Nadia curled up on the bed. He glanced over at her, watching as her eyes fluttered shut. Poor girl. She and Sydney both had been through hell... Both at the hands of Sloane. And to find out that Sloane was your father? He shivered.
Nadia slept for about two hours, before jumping awake, screaming. She fought at the arms that held her.
"Calm down!" Eric said, shaking her gently. "You're safe."
"He killed them... All of them... Because of me..."
"You are safe!" Eric emphasized.
She gasped, looking up at him. "I'm safe?"
"You're safe," he repeated.
She nodded, putting her face in her hands. "I'm so afraid. They're coming for me," she whispered. "Please hold me."
Eric moved over and sat on the bed, putting his arms around the traumatized woman as she wept into his shirt. "Shhhh... It'll be alright."
"No it won't!" she exclaimed. "My whole world has been turned upside down. My father is not only a criminal but he's apparently THE criminal of the century..."
Eric thought for a moment, unsure of how to respond to that. Then it came to him. "But you have a sister who cares about you a great deal," he finally pointed out.
He sat still a bit longer as Nadia's body continued to shake with sobs. Finally she stopped. "I've been alone all my life. Everyone has lied to me."
"Until now," Weiss pointed out. "Sydney hasn't lied to you, nor have I or the CIA."
Nadia finally looked up at him, a darkness of hurt and betrayal contaminating the purity of her eyes. "Yet."
"Sydney would never hurt you intentionally."
"Too much hurt has been unintentional." She suddenly looked calmer, reaching up to stroke his face.
Eric stiffened, knowing instantly where this was headed. "We can't do this Nadia," Eric said calmly, taking her hand from his face. "It's not right."
She smiled at him oddly. "I don't need a long term commitment, Eric," she started, using his first name for the first time. "I just want to be the center of someone's world... to be loved... if only for a night." She leaned in and kissed him firmly on the lips. "Please Eric. This is what I want. You wouldn't be taking advantage of me." She kissed him again.
Eric lost control momentarily and let himself enjoy the moment as their lips met in a long, passionate kiss.
His last coherent thought was: ‘Sydney's going to kill me...'
