Summary: A Letter From Sam

Elanor slowly looked through her father's things. He'd gone on to rest in the Grey Havens and would not return to Middle Earth. She missed him and her mother deeply. Rosie had passed away a short time before Sam left. She came upon the big red book that her father had held dear. He had told them the stories... stories of how he and Frodo had saved Middle Earth. Of course, he'd always downplayed his part. That was something she'd always adored about her father. He cared with all his soul and asked for nothing in return, not even simple recognition.

She picked up the book, determined to read the adventure for herself for once. As soon as she sat down with it, a letter slid out of the book and was surprised to find it unaddressed. Slowly, she broke the seal and opened it, feeling suddenly guilty.

This is a letter to whomever ends up in possession of this book. Though I hope it stays within the family, I know enough to know that it don't always.

This is the story of Mr. Frodo's adventure. Started first by Bilbo and then finished by him. Mr. Frodo had told me once to add my story and I have, though I feel that mine is of insignificance next to such great deeds as he's done. Therefore, please forgive my mistakes in advance. I have tried to accurately tell what I know, but no one remembers everything. I did also put in here some important letters and things. I can't retell stories as good as Mr. Frodo I'm afraid.

Anyway, I'm not one for lots of words but there are a few things I wanted to make sure were known. All of this story is true even though lots of stuff sounds strange. Believe me, I was surprised when I left the Shire for the first time. Second, Mr. Frodo is the best friend a hobbit could hope for. All the bad talk I hear about him and the whisperings cut me deeply but I know the truth. And you can too. Please read the story with an open mind and always listen with your heart. I indeed hope this work survives through the ages, as no better being will you ever hear of.
