Eric returned to consciousness slowly. He tried to jerk up but was held fast. Looking up, he saw that his wrists were shackled to the bed in an unfamiliar room. "Nadia!" he called, instantly worried. He looked around frantically, noticing a figure sitting in a nearby chair. "I should have known," Eric scoffed.

"Yes, Agent Weiss, you probably should have," Sloane replied evenly.

"Where's Nadia?"

"Safe. I understand the two of you got rather close." Sloane came closer, tapping the gun he held into Eric's side.

"What business is that of yours?"

"Just a father's concern for his daughter."

"I guess your father of the year award just got lost in the mail," Eric spat back. Sloane simply smiled and shrugged, sitting silently and staring at Eric. "Okay Sloane, cut the crap and tell me what you want from me."

"Your help. And before you protest, let me assure you that you will help us. Willing or unwillingly is your choice."

Eric scowled.

"Dad..." Nadia said, stepping into the room. "I don't want him hurt."

Eric suddenly felt as if he'd been gutted. She was in on it... He should have seen it before but it all suddenly hit him. She was working with Sloane. She had played him. And oh so well. "Nadia..." he started. "He's a liar." His voice was choked with pain.

"He's my father Eric. Everything will be fine." She leaned in and kissed him. "Dad are these restraints really necessary?"

"He is CIA, my dear."

"Nadia, please..." Eric begged.

"It'll be okay Eric," Nadia said once more before leaving the room, Sloane right behind her. A lone tear trailed down Eric's cheek.

***************************************

"Dad, you won't harm him will you?"

Sloane hugged his daughter. "Why would I do that?" he asked calmly. "You care about him."

Nadia nodded. "I love him. I hate that we had to do this... I think he would have come willingly with me."

"But you don't know for certain. We can't afford any maybes in this case."

Nadia nodded. "What will you do with him?"

"He has a CIA locator inside him. We'll need to do a minor surgery tomorrow to remove it. We're shielded from the signal for now but if we go anywhere... they'll know where he is instantly."

She nodded again. "I want to see him tonight and tell him myself what we're doing. I think he'll understand it better if I tell him."

Her father made a gesture to several guards and she suddenly found herself restrained in a chair. "Dad, what are you doing?"

"I'm sorry Nadia... but I have to..." He pulled out a long needle filled with a green liquid.

"Dad... you promised no more... You promised..." When her father didn't answer she started struggling. "Please don't... Please Dad..."

He leaned in to gently kiss her forehead. "I'm sorry. There's no other way." He quickly injected her with the substance and she slumped over.

Nadia came back to full awareness, or something approaching it, hours later. She found herself in the same room, but the restraints had been removed and she was alone. She quickly pulled herself to her feet. If her father had lied about the injections, what would he have done to Eric? She made her way to the room he'd been kept in as fast as she could, still a little shaky from the drug or whatever it was.

The dark room was filled with light as the door creaked open. "Eric..." she sighed with relief, as she stumbled into the room.

"Nadia..." he mumbled, half conscious.

Nadia gasped as she got a good look at him. He had a black eye and his face was bloodied and bruised. "He hurt you..." she said, trailing off in disbelief.

"Don't look so surprised, ‘dear'," Eric responded sarcastically. "Your father is a liar and this is just the beginning. Why didn't you trust me Nadia? I told you I'd protect you."

"He's my father. He promised... He promised me no more injections. He promised me that you wouldn't be hurt. That you and I could even possibly have a life together." Tears of betrayal filled her eyes.

"Nadia, your father is a liar. He will kill us both. All that matters are his own wants. It's what he does. It's the way he is."

"I'm so sorry Eric. He promised." She leaned in close to him to kiss his cheek but Eric turned his head, still angry and stinging over her betrayal that now had him cuffed to this bed in the dark room. "Have I lost you as well?"

"Nadia, you're sitting her talking about how your father betrayed you and yet you betrayed me." He let her see the hurt he knew was reflected in his own eyes.

"He's my father Eric. I thought I could trust him. I thought he could protect us."

"How has any of this protected us? You're in even more danger than before and I'm laying here chained to this bed. I can't move or help you." He paused. "The only person we ever needed protecting from was from your father Nadia."

"Eric, I'm sorry..." she whispered. She didn't know what else to say.

"Nadi, we've only been together a week and you've already betrayed me. It's going to take a little time and patience on your part for me to get over it. For now I suggest we work on a plan to get out of here."

She nodded. "Let's just leave now."

"We can't. For one thing, we do need to try and get the right time and for the second, I'm a bit tied up at the moment."

"Nadia, time to continue," Sloane said, entering the room.

"Okay, but afterwards I want to see Eric. Remove his restraints."

Sloane nodded and two guards came to free Eric. Eric quickly moved to grab her arm and pull her close. "We'll be okay," he whispered, nuzzling her neck gently. He pulled back to give her a kiss.

She stroked his cheek and then turned and walked out without a word.

Sloane stood there a long moment, watching Eric thoughtfully. "You're a distraction for her. I think we might keep you around a little longer."

"Keep her mind off your betrayal at least huh?" Eric asked sarcastically.

"Just behave, because when I find a good reason, you're dead." He gestured to the two guards at the doorway. "Escort Mr. Weiss to the interrogation room and see if you can get anything out of him today."

"What will you tell Nadia?" Eric challenged.

"Whatever is necessary."

At that, he turned and left, leaving Eric to suffer at the hands of his goons.

***************************************

That evening, Nadia stumbled into Eric's room. She lay next to him and kissed his forehead. "We have to leave tonight. My father is moving you in the morning and he won't tell me where or why."

"He's going to kill me Nadia..." Eric responded softly. He could see shock echo over her face.

"How can he do this?"

Eric shook his head. He had no answer.

"We're leaving now," Nadia decided firmly, helping Eric to his feet, and having him lean on her. They started heading out the door.

"Where do you think you're going?" a voice called.
