A Kiss is Still a Kiss
by Kara B.

An Alias Ficlet

Rating: PG

Summary: Jack Bristow/Olivia Reed– with the line "You must remember this: A kiss is still a kiss." (Fic for honeymink)

********************************

"I'm sorry about your husband. You have my deepest sympathies," Jack told the woman in front of him. Like himself, she was completely composed. He understood the reason. She would not allow herself to fall apart now, for fear of not being able to regain that sense of control.

"Thank you Agent Bristow."

"Please, call me Jack," he replied, trying to make the woman feel more at ease. The funeral for her husband was in an hour. The last thing she need was a bunch of "agents" hanging around. "They've assigned me to protect you during the funeral, just in case."

"You don't think anyone will attack do you?"

"I don't know," he answered honestly.

"My husband was a good man," she replied. "I don't understand..."

He gently touched her arm. "I will find out what's going on. That I promise you."

She gave a weak smile. "I'm certain you will Agent Bristow. What I've heard of you is that you rarely fail in tasks you take personally."

"I don't deal well with failure. There is always a way to beat the odds."

"Then you don't believe in a no-win scenario?"

Jack shook his head. "It's not about winning. It's about how much the result costs and how much a person is willing to pay to get the result they wish."

Silence reigned for a long moment before Olivia Reed stood. "I have to finish getting ready."

Jack grabbed her arm. "I will find out the truth. I promise you that."

She stared at him for a moment, or perhaps past him was the better term, then suddenly kissed him. Jack was stunned. He knew that this was often a reaction of grieving people, to turn to others, but it bothered him.

She pulled back. "I'm sorry."

Jack composed himself. "It's quite alright. Believe me, I do understand the grief you feel."

"Thank you Agent Bristow... for your discretion."

Jack nodded once again and walked away, leaving Olivia on her own for a moment. She murmured to herself. "Well Mr. Bristow, you must remember this: A kiss is still a kiss." She grinned to herself, another plan formulating.
